Throughout my married life, my husband and I have strived to maintain a frugal lifestyle. Sometimes we have been forced into making every penny stretch as far as it could as we have faced job cutbacks, pay decreases, and even job loss.

As we have weathered these storms, we have found ourselves on the receiving end of the giving spirit as we have received clothing donations, food donations, and even cash on our doorstep on one occasion.

While we have felt the warmth of the giving touch firsthand, my husband and I also strive to instill this same spirit of generosity within our eight kids.

Never is the need greater in our communities and across the globe than it is during the holidays.

give

It is important to my husband and I that our kids see us share our gifts with others. Whether we are putting money in the Salvation Army can, assembling bags of toiletries for the needy in our community, donating gifts, clothing, or meals to those in need, or simply giving of our time, we have done this all as a family during the holidays over the years.

Actually, we focus on giving to others year round.

Every time we give of our time or our resources, we are reminded of how the true gift isn’t found when on the receiving end, it’s found on the giving end. Generously giving to others helps our children grow as individuals, and it also bonds us closer as a family who is united in being focused on the bigger picture of life.

Even if you are stretched beyond your means as we have been at times, you can still get in on the joy of giving this holiday season. If you take pictures, you’ve actually for everything you need.

Here’s what I mean.

Johnson & Johnson has created a FREE photo app that allows you to get in on the giving. For every photo you share through their Donate a Photo app, Johnson & Johnson will donate $1 to one of its trusted non-profit partners – and YOU get to choose which one!

This app is amazing as they have made it so easy to share your photo to Facebook and Twitter, which means that your act of generosity can multiply as you encourage others to use the app as well. In fact, since the launch of Donate a Photo in 2013 more than 1.75 million photos have been donated, and nearly 180,000 people have contributed!

You can download the app right HERE, or from the app store.

Maybe photos aren’t your thing. No worries, you can still come alongside Johnson & Johnson and give in another way.

Here’s another way that you can get in on the holiday giving.

Save the Children, an organization that Johnson & Johnson has partnered with for years, does such important work worldwide. One of their key focuses is infant and maternal health, which is something that is very near and dear to my heart.

Just purchase a gift from the Save the Children “Gifts of Joy” holiday catalog, and Johnson & Johnson will match each donation up to $450,000, continuing to build on their three-year $10 million commitment.

This is a great way to bless others while watching your gift multiply even further.

There are so many ways to give this holiday season, and in doing so our life as well as the lives of countless others will be forever changed for the better.

*Johnson & Johnson has curated a list of trusted causes, and you can donate a photo to one cause, once a day. Each cause will appear in the app until it reaches its goal, or the donation period ends. If the goal isn’t reached, the cause will still get a minimum donation.
