walk in the wordThis is such a powerful verse. It reminds us that our eyes are the windows to our heart and soul, and that we need to be ever so careful about what we spend time looking at. This is a strong reminder that if our eyes fall on sinful things that are of the darkness, then our body will be full of darkness. It doesn’t say things like maybe, sometimes, or perhaps. It is pretty straightforward: if out eyes are full of darkness, then our bodies will be full of darkness. Period.

Since we are called to be a light to the world around us, there cannot be light where there is darkness.

I remind my older kids of this all the time. We are very selective in what we let them watch on with social media and even just the internet for this very reason. Some of their friends may think they are uncool for it, but as of right now, my kids don’t really care since they take this verse to heart.

Even as parents we need to be mindful of what we put before our eyes, and, what our kids are seeing over our shoulder. So often we don’t give thought to what they are seeing while we are watching something. Even if they don’t see much because we shoo them away, we are setting a poor example of what this verse speaks to.

My prayer is that we take this verse to heart and are more mindful of the media choices we make starting today.

Today’s verse:

Luke 11:34

Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are healthy, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are unhealthy, your body also is full of darkness.
