It was only in the past few years that I had a friend tell me that there are times when God really just gives us two different choices that are equally pleasing to Him. There are times that He really just wants to give us the freedom to choose, and He will bless us either way. Sometimes, we really get to choose!

This was so awesome for me, and it was so freeing to realize that sometimes there isnโ€™t a right and a wrong. Sometimes things arenโ€™t as black and white as we try to make them. Sometimes two options are equally โ€œgood,โ€ just different.

This is the exact point that the author is making in chapter seven of The Best Yes. I love how she then goes on to say that the fear of making a wrong choice is an exercise in faith and that God would never want the fear of choosing wrong to keep us stagnant in our faith. That was also a powerful thought.

I think this was my favorite sentence in the entire chapter:

โ€œIf I am trusting myself, I will stare at all the possible ways I could fail. If I am trusting God, I will stare at the possible ways Heโ€™ll use this whether I fail or succeed.โ€

Isnโ€™t that just pure awesomeness?!

Then, how freeing is it to read that there is no such thing as a perfect decision? All decisions really do have pros and cons to them, and all decisions will have elements of good and elements of bad. Of course we are required to embrace them both equally.

Of course we do have to have the heart of God at our root with a desire to please Him and to bring Him glory in the forefront. But, if we have those things, we really do have Godโ€™s blessing in making the choice.

He trusts us to listen to His voice, to discern His will using the guidance he provides in His Word, and then, He promises to show up and handle the rest. He promises us that He will guide the outcome, and that whatever that outcome is, it is what is in our best interest.

Sometimes it is so hard to be an adult. There are times that I long for the days when all I had to decide was what to wear, how to spend my free time, and which friend to confide in about something. Well, there may have been a bit more to it than that, but there was certainly not the weightiness that I so often feel about making the โ€œrightโ€ decision as an adult.

However, this chapter again reminds me that I am only required to discern what is best, I am not the one responsible for making the best outcome emerge.

The next time you face a decision that seems to be paralyzing you, remember that there is often not a right and a wrong decision to be made. Sometimes there isnโ€™t even a good and a better decision to be made.

Sometimes, if our heart and our intentions are in the right place, we really get to choose.

The thoughts shared in this post were inspired by chapter one in The Best Yes. This is a book that were are reading together as a community beginning February 22nd, 2016. We are reading just three chapters a week in this book.
