Do you long to have a great morning? There is just something about mornings that I don’t like. I guess it’s not really the morning as a whole, it is the first 15 minutes or so. Do you agree?

Sometimes it can be so hard to get up and get going. Finding that motivation can be such a challenge.

There is a huge difference in how we feel about our morning and in how our day tends to unfold, however, when we attack our day before it attacks us. When we take control of our mornings, we feel more as though we are the engineer of the train that pulls us along at a frightening pace in our life rather than feeling as though we are hanging off the back of the train for dear life.

change life

I discovered five things that really get my morning headed in the right direction, and I would love to share them with you. It is amazing how different my day goes when I start my day in this way rather than choosing to skip over these things in an effort to be more productive or efficient in my day.

In all reality, skipping over these things makes my day so much less productive. You’d think I would have learned that the first few times I skipped over these things. Maybe some day I will learn.

Running through these five things makes a huge difference in my day. They aren’t hard things to do, and they aren’t really all that time consuming either, but the positive effect they have is incredible. Tomorrow, start your day with these things and see how they work for you!

Start your day before anyone else gets up

This idea makes even me cringe, but if at all possible it really does help to have a few moments to yourself before you start juggling all the people and schedules that the day demands. Even if it is only 15 minutes, you have still had some peace and quiet in your day – when it matters most!

Drink a full 8 ounces of water before eating & do it within the first 15 minutes or so of getting up

There is just something about this that seems to kick your body into high gear and really gets your juices flowing.

Read something that inspires you

This could be a chapter in a book, a blog, scripture, or a devotional, but find whatever it is that anchors your day in something positive and then spend a few moments savoring it.

Write down (yes really write them down) three things to be thankful for

If this doesn’t challenge you, pick a larger number that does. Being thankful first sets our day in the proper perspective no matter what challenges we face in our day.

Check and adjust your overall plan for the day

Consult your calendar and your daily list. You can read more about what’s on my list in Why I Make Lists (and why you should, too). Include where you will be going, the meals you will be making, and when your day will be able to wind down.

I think most people would love nothing more than to roll back over when our alarm goes back off, but for many of us, this is just not reality. Mornings don’t have to be something we dread, however, and you can take control of your mornings by taking these few proactive steps.

  1. So my mornings start slow. I have to get up before the kids if at all possible to be able to have my Bible time. But I am really not functional till I have had at least one cup of coffee. It is my “Fibro medicine ” It helps me release the stiffness and pain and get moving. I keep thinking I want to exercise in the am, but usually I just cant. Writing down things I am thankful for really does get my mind directed in the right way even if my body never follows. Sometimes getting control of our thoughts is all we can do but it makes a world of difference.

    1. There are many days our bodies don’t seem to follow, but our minds on the right track is a start!
