teaching kids lessons through storiesThis is a great poem that illustrates perseverance. I keep it available for times that one of my kids need an extra dose of encouragement. It’s even great to keep on hand for me, too.

So often we can feel down, overwhelmed, or just tired when the waves of life want to overtake us. This is a great reminder that we are never alone in it and that we need to just keep putting one foot in front of the other. I hope this speaks to you (and your kids) as much as it does to us!

You Mustn’t Quit

~Anonymous

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,

When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,

When the funds are low and the debts are high,

And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,

When care is pressing you down a bit,

Rest!—if you must—but never quit.

Life is queer, with its twists and turns,

As everyone of us sometimes learns,

And many a failure turns about

When he might have won if he’s stuck it out;

Stick to your task, though the pace seems slow—

You may succeed with one more blow.

Success is failure turned inside out—

The silver tint of the clouds of doubt—

And you never can tell how close you are,

It may be near when it seems afar;

So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit—

It’s when things seem worst that YOU MUSTN’T QUIT.

I was trying to pinpoint my favorite point and found it hard since there are so many. I think it may be the idea that the end might be near at any time. Quitting could mean that we would have been successful the very next day.
