Isn’t it amazing that when you live an overwhelmed life there are so many things fall through the cracks? Being overwhelmed means that we are doing a whole lot of stuff, but so often nothing really matters when it comes down to it. When we live in a lifestyle of overwhelm we don’t do anything well…or worse…we really stink at so many of the things we try to do.

However, do you know the real problem with living an overwhelmed life?

Let’s take a quick pop quiz:

  • Have you ever gotten to the kitchen only to forget what brought you there?
  • Have you ever gotten in the car to go somewhere, but then you totally blanked on where you were needing to go?
  • What about this one – have you promised something to someone very important to you only to totally drop the ball simply because you forgot?
  • How often are you misplacing your keys, your planner, your purse, or something else that is instrumental in your life?

Oh my. If you find yourself squinting your eyes as you read these things out of sheer pain, no worries, I’ve been right there with you.

If these things are your reality more than you would like, I’ve got great news for you.

You don’t have to accept these things as your realities. You can experience a different reality altogether, and I am excited to share some things with you about this.

If you are reading this post, I invite you to join us in learning to do things differently. I invite you to fully grasp the peace that can be yours when you move from a life of overwhelm to living a life of intention, living a life of purpose, living the life you want to live.

As a community here at The Intentional Mom, we are working our way through reading Lysa TerKeurst’s book, The Best Yes. If you don’t know Lysa, she is an amazing writer who speaks from the heart in terms that we can all understand. She shares from her own life with transparent vulnerability, and she writes on topics that the women of today struggle with on a large scale.

If this sounds good to you, go ahead and pick up the book here:

Now, let’s talk just a bit more about living an overwhelmed life.

In chapter two Lysa addresses the craziness that living an overwhelmed life can cause, and then she takes it one step further by sharing that perhaps the biggest issue is that when we are so buried by every day life, we very well might miss an assignment that God has for us.

She goes on to say this…”If we want His direction for our decisions, the great cravings of our souls must not only be the big moments of assignment. They must also be the seemingly small instructions in the most ordinary of moments when God points His Spirit finger saying, Go there.”

The truth is, if we are slaves to living in the rat race, we will miss most of the instructions that come in the ordinary moments.

Does being able to hear, see, and actually absorb the seemingly small assignments sound good to you? If so, then you are in the right place if you already have Lysa’s book. If not, grab one and join in whether on your own or with us in the book club.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to miss out on the things that really matter. That is at the heart of why The Intentional Mom exists, and it is what my mission became two years ago when I realized that I was then the mom of a teen.

The thoughts shared in this post were inspired by chapter one in The Best Yes. This is a book that were are reading together as a community beginning February 22nd, 2016. We are reading just three chapters a week in this book.

Even if you are not reading along with us this time, you can still pick up your own copy and gain the wisdom you need in making wise decisions in the midst of endless demands.

Here is a bit more about our book club…

This book club is a way of encouraging others to carve out the time to read at a pace of just three chapters a week because I’ve learned that finding time to read never just happens on its own.

Every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday there will be blog posts here with Monday’s Inspirational Reads somewhere in the title with my reaction to each of the three chapters for the week, and then on Thursday evening at 9 pm EST we will be on Periscope discussing the chapters in an interactive format. You can find everything you need to know about Periscope by reading The Periscope Lowdown.

All you have to do is grab your book above, and you’re good to go! We’d love to have you join it, otherwise, grab your own copy and read any of the posts with Monday’s Inspirational Reads in the title and you can join in on your own time!

Welcome!!!
