This is the final of a four post series about how to deal with moving forward when that thing you want is always just out of reach. I’m guessing if you’ve been around for any length of time, you may have experienced this at one time or another, or, perhaps this sort of thing is still in your future.

The interesting thing about disappointment and life not going as we have planned or in the way we would like it to is that we can’t change it. Try as hard as we may, other than making adjustments, it is a rarity that we can do anything about things that are outside of our reach.

However, we can control how we respond to these things.

In the first post in this series, I shared the first four steps. They are to breathe, to not feel guilty about hurting, to spend time grieving that things are not the way you want them to be, and then to begin processing through that thing you want being out of your reach yet again. You can read the first post by clicking here.

In the second post I shared four more steps. They were to get someone else’s perspective, find wisdom, find inspiration, and finally to accept. You can read that post by clicking here.

You can read the third post here.

Now, let’s move forward with the next four steps to take when that thing you want is always just out of reach.

Find blessings

Yes. Find blessings again. In the previous step, you found a new plan. Now, it’s time to find blessings in that new plan. That new plan is usually not one of our choosing, but blessings can still be found in that new plan, even if it’s not easy. It’s so good, however, and finding blessings at this stage can be so vital.

Find peace

After finding blessings with this new plan in your future, it is important to find peace. Quiet your spirit. Calm your worries. Find peace with where you’ve been. Find peace with where you’re not going to be. Find peace with where you see yourself being in the future. Find peace.

Find hope

I love that movie called Hope Floats. I did enjoy the movie, but I also like the visual idea that the words “hope floats” brings. Hope always rises again, doesn’t it? Hope can be buried. It can even be buried deeply. However, hope will eventually rise again.

Find your smile

When feeling down, when facing a challenge, and when dealing with hardship, it can feel like you may never smile again. I felt this so deeply for a time in recent months when dealing with a challenge. You may have to really look for it, but, you need to find your smile again.

It is never easy when that thing you want is always just out of reach, but there is no choice but to walk through this trying time. And, since you have to walk through it, knowing the steps to take from someone who has been there, done that can be so helpful. It really is just a matter of emotionally processing, accepting, and then moving toward the future with a smile.

I made it through. I’m sure you made it through in the past. And, we can do it again, too, if needed.
