Summer. Life moves slower, time is more plentiful, and the days never seem to end. Summer is the perfect time to be intentional in building faith and in building relationships while having some fun, too.

lemonade stand

Have you ever thought of a lemonade stand being a way to build your family’s faith? When you put a little bit of a different spin on having a lemonade stand, it can be. In this activity, you will be using a lemonade stand as an opportunity to serve others.

Gather your family together to make some lemonade, and maybe even some cookies or another sweet treat. Then, get a table and some chairs. Have someone make a sign that says, “Lemonade and snacks – FREE.”

Then, spend some time sitting at your lemonade stand and offering what you have to people who pass by. I’m guessing the idea of free lemonade and treats will be a bit strange to people. They may even ask why you are offering things for free. In this case, just smile and say that your family is using this experience as a time to bless others as God has blessed you – or something to that effect.

After you take your stand down, take your Bible and read Isaiah 44:3, which says, “For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants.”

Spend some time talking about how God speaks of pouring water on a thirsty land in a desert, and He relates this to pouring out his Spirit on the generations who follow in our footsteps. Just as the lemonade quenched the thirst of your neighbors, so the Holy Spirit refreshes our hearts, soul, and mind.

Close your time together in prayer, thanking God for water when we are thirsty and for his Holy Spirit that brings nourishment and refreshment to our souls. Thank Him for your family and for the fun we can all have in the summer.
