The home office is such an important place, especially if you work at home as I do. Even if you are just the CEO of your family, having a home office that is efficient and flows well is a very good thing.

Maybe all you have is a small desk or counter space for your office area, but even in this case having that area be clean and clutter free will be a huge time saver and a huge stress saver for you.

In creating a home office that works, these are the things I do to keep a home office that is clutter free the easy way!

Have the right furniture for the job

We finally got a larger desk area in our home office, and it has made a huge difference. While it can be a bit of an investment to get the right furniture, it will pay off in saving you the stress and strain of not having enough space or not having the right space to take care of the things you need to take care of.

Keep workspaces free

I cannot say this enough. Partially because I have an issue with my family members coming in and leaving their clutter on my workspace, but also because the more stuff you have to get cluttered in your main work area, the more cluttered it will become.

Only keep the things you really use within arms reach

Do you really needs 12 bottles of glue every time you are working in your office space? I’m guessing not. So, put these things in more out of the way spaces. We keep many of our extra office supple in *this hanging shoe organizer.

Keep distractions out of this area

When you are in your office, chances are you are supposed to be doing work of some kind. While it should be a place that encourages work and an overall sense of calm, keeping things that only distract you in that area just become a huge time waster.

Break down the things you keep in your office into smaller categories

Don’t lump your paperclips, staples, erasers, pens, pencils, and other things all together. Having a separate bin or cup for each of these things will save you time and therefore stress in looking for what you need.

Declutter often

I say this more for my own good than for yours. I am famous for letting my home office get out of hand, simply shutting the door and pretending that the mess isn’t there. The more often I make decluttering a priority, the less decluttering I have to do.

Get some inspiration

Browse through magazines or Pinterest to get some ideas of how others do it. I get some of my best ideas by looking through a variety of resources to put them together in a way that works for me.

Work in your office

What is the best way to ensure that your office stays neat and organized? Actually working in your office. If it is more of just a storage area, it is much more likely to become a dumping grounds for you and other members of your family.

The home office, whatever that looks like in your family, is essential to keeping clutter free. A little goes a long way, and being proactive about it makes all the difference.

Bills & paperwork can greatly add to our paper clutter but taking some measures to manage it is vital. Here are the 10 brilliant things you’ve been missing.
