We have many holiday traditions in our family, but this one is by far our favorite.

I shared many of our favorite holiday traditions in this post HERE, but I wanted to highlight our very favorite one.

It is so difficult to not get caught up in all the holiday craziness, especially the gift craziness. This is true in our family, and I’m guessing it might be in yours, too.

As Christians, we do our best to keep the focus on the real reason we celebrate the season, which is the birth of Jesus.

We read several different variations of stories of the birth of Christ, especially since one of our favorite traditions is reading a new Christmas book every night. Be sure to read about how we do that exactly in 20 Unforgettable Holiday Traditions Your Family Will Love because it really is cool.

We have also given our kids only three gifts to remember and symbolize the three gifts that the wise men brought to Jesus with the gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

While we do enjoy these traditions, our favorite isn’t either one of these.

Our favorite tradition is waiting in great anticipation for the one who gets the very special gift.

It’s a very special gift, and my husband and I have to come up with new and interesting ways to disguise it every year since the kids are forever trying to find it.

What is it?

Every year on Christmas Eve my husband and I wrap up the baby Jesus from our nativity scene, and the luckiest kid that year receives it as one of their three gifts.

No one ever feels slighted since they are technically receiving only two gifts that year, rather, everyone is always hoping they are the lucky ones each year.

Can you imagine how crazy it can get in our home on Christmas morning with a family of 10?! Seriously, it can be completely chaotic. But, this tradition is always like the respite in the midst of the holiday storm.

For this reason, this will forever be our favorite family holiday tradition.

What is your favorite holiday tradition.
