Do you have certain things that you do to make yourself feel like a million bucks? If not, you should! If you are a mom, so often we neglect these kinds of things when it comes to ourselves.
Just because the majority of a mom’s time is spent focused on her children when she is at home, it doesn’t mean that we need to always look like a frump.
As tempting as it is to put myself on the back burner most days, I find it beneficial to follow these few steps to lift my mood and set myself up to have a good day. I also find that when I look like I mean business, my kids tend to think I mean business, which is always a good thing.
Get dressed.
It doesn’t have to be fancy, although I do enjoy “dressing up” a little most days, but at times sweat pants, yoga pants, or athletic pants are a vital part of my attire.
Accessorize.
Earrings, necklace, or scarf, any of it or all of it will do. I find it makes me feel more complete.
Perfume or body spray.
This is one thing I cannot live without. No matter what I am wearing I love smelling nice, and it offsets everything I don’t like about my appearance that day. I have a ton, I also have my favorites, but I do have an ample supply – bought on the cheap of course! I often refresh throughout the day. I guess maybe this is such an important thing to me since I have spent much of the past 14 years wearing baby spit-up as a fragrance.
Make-up.
This is another essential to me most days. Nothing elaborate, but a little does go a long way. I find eye makeup to be essential in hiding how little sleep I usually get each day. An eyelash curler is so helpful for this. Sometimes eye makeup is it for me, but this is a huge improvement in looking the part of someone in charge. There are all kinds of videos out there on tricks to make your eyes pretty and striking. Watch some, then try them out.
Chapstick.
I always have some with me. I do wear lipstick at times, but I am never, I repeat never, without a lip balm of some kind. Somehow having this on my lips makes me look more “done” in addition to feeling nice, especially for those of us in the North where cold weather persists for many months.
