This summer we took an amazing summer vacation, and I have been so busy that I forgot to share this amazing experience with you all, I’m so sorry!

Anyway.

We went to Niagara Falls with all of our kids, which is so extra special because my husband and I have never even been there!!! (Well, my husband was when he was super young and doesn’t remember).

If you have never been to Niagara Falls, this is really something that needs to be on every family’s list of places to see. We went to the Canadian side, which is truly spectacular!

And, if you are going to go, you need to be ready to drop a little money because you really need to do some of the tourist things in order to really experience it.

As a family of 10, travel can be really difficult because it would take two if not three traditional hotel rooms to lodge our entire clan.

This is why Airbnb is the most amazing thing ever. It’s not just for bed and breakfasts, either, and renting a cabin, cottage, or home allows us to vacation more economically. You can take advantage of the same thing!

Honestly, if you are looking to travel in the most frugal way possible, renting a home, cabin, cottage, or condo is the way to do that. It will save you a ton of money not only when it comes to lodging costs, but also because you will have more accommodations than you will in a typical hotel room – like a kitchen! If there is a way to do laundry, that also means packing less!

Airbnb is a way to rent vacation places, and it is the best way to do this in my opinion. Some of the other vacation rental websites out there are larger, which makes them more difficult to navigate.

Every time I have used Airbnb there are many reviews to choose from, but there aren’t too many, which can be overwhelming with a larger site as well.

The first time I rented a place with Airbnb, I was a bit worried just because it was new and different, but it has always been a positive experience. I find it is helpful to really spend time reading the reviews because people really are honest about what their stay at any given place was like. In my experience, our accommodations have been just as described both by the one listing their place for rent and by the reviews that others have left there.

The site also makes it really easy to contact the listing person, and that have always been amazing people in my experience.

The place we stayed in the Niagara Falls area was right on Lake Ontario, and it was beautiful. The hosts, Katherine and Joe, were so amazing. They were so welcoming, and they went over and above in every way. We watched the most beautiful sunsets over the water in the evening, and it was so nice to have an area for the kids to run and play. This is another advantage over staying in a hotel room.

If you are looking for a way to be frugal and travel with your family, be sure to check out Airbnb as there really is no more frugal way to travel, especially with a family of any size!

  1. Nice! I am planning an east coast trip for next summer and was considering Niagara Falls. Looks like I will definitely have to put that on the list. I haven’t used Air BnB yet but have used other similar sites and I definitely agree that with kids a home/apartment is the way to go over a hotel room. Thanks for the tips!
