Everyone knows school days can be stressful – especially when you aren’t completely prepared for them! The weekend can be a vital planning time for the coming week if you just take the time to do it.

Weekday mornings can be so stressful. Things get lost, people get up late and dash out the door without things, and people even arrive late to wherever they are going.

The good news is that this can all be avoided with a little pre-planning and knowing just what to do.

Then, use these nine tips to streamline your weekday mornings with proper planning on the weekend!

plan stress free week days

Meal plan all 3 meals each day

It is amazing how much stress can be eliminated by only having to think about what to eat at meals once. Not to mention, if you have a meal plan, others can jump in and take over or help at times.

Meal planning will keep you from making unnecessary stops at the grocery store for unexpected ingredients, and meal planning will save you money since you won’t be going to the drive-thru when dealing with meals is just too much.

Meal prep for those meals

Will you need onion for 3 meals during this week? Chop it on the weekend and put it in individual bags.

Will you need ground beef, marinated meat, or baked chicken? This can all be taken care of on the weekend to make weekdays and weeknights so smoother.

No more last minute and expensive trips through the drive-thru when you meal prep either.

And, there’s an app for that! There is the most amazing program that will allow you to create meal plans, give you the recipes that you can adjust to various serving sizes, and even print out your shopping list that is specific to all the recipes you choose (or use the app on your phone).

Even better, it teaches you how to easily cook double of each recipe to throw a meal in your freezer.

This program has been a huge money saver in my life. Check it out on the graphic below.

Update family calendar

Things change all the time. Make sure to revisit your family calendar and make any needed adjustments so you can clearly see your week ahead.

Choose daily outfits for young kids

Avoid the battles of what to wear during the morning rush by taking care of these things on the weekend. This also makes younger kids more independent.

How awesome would it be if your young ones can get themselves dressed in the morning in something that actually matches – all by themselves?!

You can put these outfits in a hanging sweater compartment, you can buy drawer carts with at least five drawers, and you can even put them in ziploc-type bags to keep them all separate.

Organize backpack station/system

Where do backpacks go after school and where do they belong so they are ready for school the next day? Figure out a system that works for you, and make sure that everything is all ready to go for the week ahead.

Gather sports equipment

Sports equipment has a way of coming up missing when you are needing to get on the road to practice. Make it a ton easier by making sure you’ve got all this ready on the weekend.

Create and stock lunch packing stations

This is something else that can make kids completely independent. Create a bin with snack items, a bin for fruits, a bin for cut up vegetables, a bin for dairy, a bin with sandwich fixings, and a bin for drinks.

These are all things that should be done on the weekend…and making lunches will go so quickly during the week.

Overcome as many scheduling issues as you can now

If you have more than one kid, chances are you know what it is like to have to be in two places at once. In fact, this can happen even if you have no kids but work outside of the home!

With a family of 10, I’ve had to come up with some pretty creative ways to deal with overlapping demands on my time.

Do yourself a huge favor and begin dealing with these as much as you can on the weekend rather than saving all of that stress for the crazy week.

Make sure you’ve got gas

Is there anything more annoying than having to stop for gas in the morning in the midst of all the crazy traffic and craziness of everyone trying to get out of the door? I don’t think so.

Filling up on the weekend will make you so happy during the week.

With these nine tips, you will soon be on the way to a smoother and happier school week because you will have made the most of the weekend prep time. This will be time so well spent!
