walk in the wordSometimes it is so easy to judge others based on assumptions. Whether it is an assumption based on where someone lives, the way they dress or something else about their appearance, or as moms, about the behavior of our children, it seems that we are under the assault of judgement from all angles at times.

More today than ever before, I think people judge others, and I would dare bet that most times their judgements are a far cry from reality.

I feel like I am constantly reminding my kids that their behavior reflects what is on their hearts. God doesn’t care about what we look like. He doesn’t care whether we’ve had our shower when we spend our morning time with Him, and He also doesn’t care whether we appear as though we are doing the right things when our hearts are not truly in the right place. Just as the pharisees prayed loudly for all to hear to appear more religious than others, people in today’s world can do the same thing.

It is also a good reminder that God sees what is on our hearts. He sees us lusting after something that our friend has, He sees us gaining a sense of satisfaction when someone gets what we feel they deserve, and He sees us when we give for selfish gain.

God is the only judge who really matters, and knowing that He can see our hearts can be a blessing or a curse. What does He see when He looks at your heart?!

This verse is a powerful reminder of all of these things, and it is a great verse for our kids to memorize.

Today’s verse:

1 Samuel 16:7

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
