“How do I know if blogging will work for me?”

I couldn’t even begin to tell you how often I hear this question. In fact, I think it might be the one I hear most often from people who are wondering about blogging – especially once they hear that my blog supports my family of 10 almost entirely on its own. You can read more about that HERE.

I once wondered the same thing.

In fact, I might say that I put a more negative spin on it since I was reluctant in the beginning. I more often said, “What makes me think that blogging will work for me?

Similarly, you might be wondering if blogging will work for you!

Full of amazing questions, this assessment will help identify your blogging strengths while also showing you areas in which you can become stronger.

Created by Ruth Soukup of Elite Blog Academy, this assessment was so accurate for me, I couldn’t have listed my strengths any differently. I’m not even sure I could have identified them as accurately, quite honestly.

Here’s how my results came out, and why these strengths are each important as a blogger.

Focus

Positivity

Kindness

Persistence

Taking Action

Flexibility

Gratitude

Generosity

Here’s why you need each of these things as a blogger.

Focus

Focus is needed because there are way more things to do than you will ever have time to do. You need to focus on what you should be doing and not get distracted on everything that comes your way….or on anyone else’s journey (remember what a trap it can be to compare yourself to other bloggers?).

Positivity

Positivity is needed because not all days are good days. Bad comments, bad page views, or someone misinterpreting what you wrote. These and more are all things that happen on a regular basis. Remaining positive is so vital.

Kindness

Kindness is needed because you are always interacting with people as a blogger, and like I said, not everyone is kind to you.

Persistence

Persistence is needed because as I’ve said, becoming a successful blogger is a marathon not a sprint. You will put in countless hours when no one seems to be listening. It remains this way even as a seasoned blogger because you can write stuff that no one seems interested in reading. Persistence for the long haul is what keeps you coming back to your computer every day.

Taking action

Well, if you don’t do it, there won’t be anyone else to do it for you no matter what it is. If your blog is to become successful, it is because you will be taking action and doing the work.

Flexibility

This is such an important skill because things NEVER go like you think they will when it comes the technical side of things. Well, maybe not never, but flexibility is needed all the time whether it is to deal with a tech issue or to change the entire post you had written because the brand you are working with wants something different. Did I mention how much I love having a tech guy these days?!

Gratitude

You can’t ever thank others too much. And the more you are grateful the more others will want to help you. I can also say that my blog would be nothing without numerous hours of help that I received from others… and that I continue to receive.

Generosity

Kind of in the same vein is the need to be generous toward others so that others will in turn be generous with you. There are always things to learn and there are always others who know what you need to learn. It will be beneficial to be generous…and, it makes you feel awesome, doesn’t it?

There will forever be room for more bloggers in the blogging world. You have a unique voice that is deeply rooted in unique experiences and wisdom. Your writing will forever be different from everyone else.

But, are you wondering if you have what it takes? Go take the assessment HERE and find out!
