This fall my husband and I celebrated 21 years of marriage, which is just crazy! I have no idea where the time has gone. Not to mention the fact that this makes me feel so old!

We have not always been able to take date nights all that often, but we have mastered the art of staying in for a date night, too.

Now that we have older kids and have babysitters, we are able to get out a bit more, too. But, when we stayed in, we got creative with fun things to do that made the night more than just ordinary night. To us, this was a date.

I have included some of our favorite in-home date nights. I have also included some fun things to do that will meet every budget. Whether you have no money to spend or are looking to spend a little bit of money, there is something for you. Of course, you will see things here that you already know of. But, we have done some out of the box things that you may not have thought of before, too.

Even after being married for 20, 30, or 50 years, it is so important to make the time to have some time with just you and your spouse.

Our rules for date night is that we designate a time to talk about the kids/household issues that need to be dealt with, but aside from that designated time we don’t talk about anything household or kids related. If you have the time to discuss these things outside of date night that would be ideal, but that is not our reality. We just find a way to have a date night and a planning/catching up night.

Taking a memorable date night doesn’t have to cost a fortune, or anything at all, in fact! During our younger years, our favorite date night was to get together with another couple to play cards, which didn’t cost anything!

If childcare is an issue, don’t forget about swapping babysitting with another couple. Make some arrangements for an evening when you take their children so they can go out and then switch. Free babysitting combined with a free date night activity can be just the things you need to spice up your marriage and fill your own tank at the same time.
