Summer. Life moves slower, time is more plentiful, and the days never seem to end. Summer is the perfect time to be intentional in building faith and in building relationships while having some fun, too.

Have you ever gone on a nature walk as a family? Even if you have, did you know that doing so can be a faith building experience?

We have some great trails and paths around our house, and hopefully you do, too, because they make the experience so much more enjoyable since you generally don’t have to worry about things like poison ivy. Oftentimes these paths have a variety of things to see and often include benches along the way for a quick rest.

Gather your family and find someplace to walk where you can see some beautiful trees, flowers, and maybe even some pretty ponds or even birds (at least if you aren’t me…in my newsletter to subscribers this weekend you will read more about me and birds – LOL).

Enjoy the beauty of nature together. Point things out to your kids like the variation of leaves and flowers, the smells around you, and the way that a gentle breeze makes the trees and grass rustle.

When you get home, grab your Bible and read Genesis 1:11-12, which says, Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so. The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.”

Spend some time talking about how God created the heavens and the earth and all that is in them. Talk about how He made no two flowers or leaves alike just as He made no two people exactly alike. Thank Him for the beautiful world in which we live, and ask for His help in doing your part to care for the world around us. Thank Him for summer memories and for families to enjoy life with.

Join the Intentional Mom community every day this August for a new way to grow your family’s faith through a memorable activity.
