It is so true that we are the ones responsible for the life we lead, at least to a great extent, isn’t it? While we all have a variety of responsibilities and things that we must get done, we do have some of that unspoken for time. And then we have the time we waste whether it is on accident by just being unproductive when we are meaning to be productive or whether it is because we are making bad choices and filling our time with things that we shouldn’t be filling it with. The truth is, everyone is a product of the choices they make. We are the stewards of our time.

With that in mind, are you spending your time on what really matters?

This whole idea is one of the things I feel is so important, and creating your own mission statement can be a great tool in determining whether your time is being spent where it should be and where you want it to be given the life you live, the people you live it with, and the season in which you find yourself.

We do all get the same number of hours in a week. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to spend my days living in reactive more. Rather, I want to spend my days living life in a proactive mode. Granted, there are always interruptions and little mishaps, but living with intention can be yours. It just has to start with you realizing that to a great extent, you are the captain of your ship. How will you guide it?

In chapter three of The Best Yes, I was so intrigued by Lysa’s statement that living a reactive life is very exhausting. She’s right on here, isn’t she?

So often it is because we become slaves to the wants and demands of others, which is where learning how to decipher The Best Yes becomes so very valuable.

This statement from the book is one that I love:

“The decisions you make determine the schedule you keep. The schedule you keep determines the life you live. And how you live your life determines how you spend your soul.”

Wow. How I spend my soul. That’s rather deep, I thought. But so true.

When we live a reactive life, and therefore spend our days flitting around from one demand to the next while feeling overwhelmed in the process, we feel weary down to the very depths of our soul, don’t we? At least I do.

Who knew that the power contained in the two little words “yes” and “no” could determine the quality of our soul?

We really can whittle away our soul, little by little, and before we know it, it’s too late.

And just like Lysa says, we don’t want to be wise stewards of our soul for our own sake, but we do this so that we can be good stewards of the gifts and talents that God has given us to bless others with in doing so.

So my question is…are you spending your time on what really matters?

Let’s keep reading to find out.

The thoughts shared in this post were inspired by chapter one in The Best Yes. This is a book that were are reading together as a community beginning February 22nd, 2016. We are reading just three chapters a week in this book.

Even if you are not reading along with us this time, you can still pick up your own copy and gain the wisdom you need in making wise decisions in the midst of endless demands.

Here is a bit more about our book club…

This book club is a way of encouraging others to carve out the time to read at a pace of just three chapters a week because I’ve learned that finding time to read never just happens on its own.

Every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday there will be blog posts here with Monday’s Inspirational Reads somewhere in the title with my reaction to each of the three chapters for the week, and then on Thursday evening at 9 pm EST we will be on Periscope discussing the chapters in an interactive format. You can find everything you need to know about Periscope by reading The Periscope Lowdown.

All you have to do is grab your book above, and you’re good to go! We’d love to have you join it, otherwise, grab your own copy and read any of the posts with Monday’s Inspirational Reads in the title and you can join in on your own time!

Welcome!!!
