Do you ever just stop and breathe for a minute? Do you ever pause to drink in, to really savor your surroundings? I will admit that I so easily glide through my day without really seeing the gifts that are all around me. I have written about this concept already as this is very much the basis for being an intentional mom, but there is always more to write about this as there are always more gifts that come into view.

This happened to me yesterday. Maybe it was hearing the news of my friend’s cancer, but I really looked around and wondered why all of this craziness that we all focus on really matters. Does it matter at all? I’m sure it does, partly, but in the overall scheme of things, much of what occupies our time, our emotions, and that space in our brain really doesn’t.

The gift I noticed yesterday is a gift that relates to homeschooling. Since this is a topic that interests so many of my readers, I thought I would share it here, but it can relate to your life in so many ways. Actually, it is something that I greatly happens in a large family, too, since we have kids of all ages. But again, if you have more than one child, you experience the extremes of one child in comparison with the extremes of the other.feet-684683_1280

So yesterday I was sweating it out through the end of high school algebra, which is some of the same things my husband just learned in his college algebra class, and I do mean sweating because algebra and math in general has never been my strong suit. Not even close. After I got done grueling my way through this, I went on to reviewing letter sounds with my preschooler.

That’s when it hit me. Can it get any better than going from algebra with one kid to letter sounds with another? Well, yes it can since a deserted beach on a desert island comes to mind, but you know what I mean.

This is one of the great rewards of homeschooling, or being a parent in general since kids get loads of homework these days, which means these parents are not off the hook either. You as a parent get to learn right alongside them!

Teaching algebra and letter sounds are also one of the rewards of having a large age span of kids. I change diapers and clean up spit up while also helping a teen work through handling bullies all in the same day.  All within the same hour at times!

So, how do you find your gift?

  • Pause, quiet mind, still your voice, and just be.
  • Look at the people around you and appreciate just one thing about each of them.
  • Focus on being thankful.

That’s it, it really is that simple.

Today, no matter what surrounds you, find the beauty.  Find your gift.  It’s been hand wrapped just for you!
