walk in the word
Since we are beginning to see the first signs of spring, I thought it would be good to be reminded that there is a season and a time for everything.  When trials come, I often remind myself of this.  They will only last so long.  I tell my kids this all the time, too.  No matter what we are facing, the beauty of spring will always emerge again, as sure as the seasons follow the same cycles every year.

Today’s verse:

Ecclesiastes 3:1

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.

One of the great thing about memorizing these bits of scripture like we do on Mondays and Thursdays is that they will be in your heart, and in the heart of your children to recall when needed.  The more you visit and make Bible verses a part of your life, the more you will remember to draw strength from them, to apply them, and to use them as reminders to navigate these waters that we call life.

The past couple of years I spoke of this verse often with one of my daughters.  She had just started a new sport, and like most things, it is a time when you have to pay your dues.  You have to start at the bottom and work your way up.  At first she was at the bottom of the pack.  She felt like she was going to be there forever, and she felt so discouraged.  But, she worked hard, every day, and I reminded her that this was her season for building, for learning, for establishing a foundation.  I brought this verse to her all the time, reminding her that one day, she would blossom into a conditioned athlete at the top of her game.

IMG_7279It took nearly two years, but this past season she came up from the bottom of the pack further and further every time she competed.  She would love to be at the top someday, and she has a ways to go to get to that point, but the promises in this verse carried her through from the bottom to somewhere to the top of the middle of the pack and still rising.  They will continue to carry her in her sport, and in her life.

Burying these truths in the hearts of our children is so very important
