Create an age appropriate obstacle course for your kids. It doesn’t have to be complicated. It can include things like crawling under a patio chair, hopping over some frisbees, kicking a ball a certain distance with the “wrong” foot, and hitting a target with a ball. The options are limitless, but there are so many ways to have fun with this.

Of course everything is always more fun with a food element involved, so what about some cold lemonade, popsicles, or even some root beer floats when you are done?

When the obstacle course is done, grab your Bible and read John 16:33, which says, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Discuss with your kids how trying to overcome the obstacles in the course felt to them. Was it a challenge? Were some easier than others? Did they want to keep trying or just give up? These are all things that we and they will struggle with as obstacles come their way in life. Some obstacles will be easier than others, some will challenge them to their core, and some will make them want to give up. However, in life, we are blessed that we are promised that we will never face these challenges alone. We are reminded that as Jesus states in John, He has overcome everything that is in this world…and someday we will, too.

We may face disease, financial ruin, and even death, but even if we do not have victory on this side of heaven, Jesus has made a way for us to be victorious as well.

Close your time together thanking God for summer, for family, for the ever-present Holy Spirit to guide us in our lives, and for the gift of Jesus who overcame everything that this world as to offer. Thank Him for the merciful gift of eternal life in heaven.
