Being a woman can be so draining, can’t it? And then if we are moms, this takes this concept to a whole new level. So often as women it is we who could be working a job outside the home, working a job inside the home, caring for a family, caring for the bulk of a home, doing the bulk of the cooking and everything that goes along with that, driving around, and so many more things. I don’t want to make it seem like men don’t do these things, too, but I can say that being a woman is exhausting, and I am often doing any or all of these things.

So often my day starts off well, but by mid-morning my energy can begin fading, and by mid-afternoon I can really be dragging. Do you find this is true for you too?

Most times a nap just isn’t possible, which means that I’ve needed to come up with some other ways that I can get things going again. Here are 8 energy boosters for exhausted moms.

Move

Yep. Give yourself a quick energy boost by doing something simple. Jumping jacks, squats, lunges, sit ups, push ups, a brisk walk or jog up the street, or even a dance party. When you start to get that dragging feeling, move.

Crank the tunes

If you have napping kids, this may require ear buds, but put on some music that really gets your blood pumping. It doesn’t take long with a catchy beat to get your juices flowing.

Open up the windows

Open up the windows for a few, as long as it’s not overly hot or humid. I especially love this in the winter. Nothing like the brisk Michigan wind to get me up and moving!

Grab a snack that is a mix of proteins and carbs

This doesn’t have to be anything time consuming or fancy. I often have nuts on hand for a quick protein go-to, but you can grab something quick and easy…and healthy for that much needed pick-me-up.

Hydrate with cold water

There is just something about ice cold water. I don’t mean to sip it either. Don’t quite guzzle it, but drink a nice big glass of cold water over a period of five minutes or so.

If possible, a shower is a good trick

I realize this is not always a plausible solution, but if it is, it is a great one.

Perform some manual labor

Cleaning often does the trick. Even if you are at the office or at work, find some sort of project to dive into that will get your blood and your brains moving.

Unplug

Even if you are working on an electronic device such as a computer, when you feel that exhaustion come over you, walk away from it. I stare at a computer screen for more than 15 hours a day, seven days a week. I can say with complete authority that nothing zaps the life right out of you like staring at a screen. Oftentimes you only need a 10-minute break, but unplug from ALL electronic devices for a few.

It can be so frustrating to have all these things that we want to get done only to find that we have absolutely no energy to actually do them. The next time you’re fading, try some of these tips!
