Summer. Life moves slower, time is more plentiful, and the days never seem to end. Summer is the perfect time to be intentional in building faith and in building relationships while having some fun, too.

Camping is a great way to have some good family fun on a budget. One of my favorite things about camping is that you can unplug from life and live a bit more rustic so to speak. While we aren’t able to get away to get away to go camping that often, we do have a tent that we have taken out to our grandparents’ house who live on a lake. Then the adults have the creature comforts of home if need be 🙂

Today, how about camping out in your own backyard? Gather everything you would need as if you were camping somewhere away from home. Do your best to make the house off limits during your overnight camping trip.

As a faith building exercise, lay a blanket out underneath the stars. Count the stars together. How many can everyone count? There are so many amazing apps that deal with constellations. Download one or look up constellations in a book and see how many you can find. My daughter has a telescope, and this makes this activity really fun!

As you are counting stars, grow your family’s faith by counting things you have to be thankful for. No thing is too small. See how high you can get. Even the very breath we take is a gift!

Then, read 1 Thessalonians 5:18, which states, “give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

Close your faith building time together praying and giving God thanks for the many gifts you have as a family. Thank Him for the beauty of the outdoors, the warmth of summer, and the glorious sky and the wonder of the entire universe.
