Summer. Life moves slower, time is more plentiful, and the days never seem to end. Summer is the perfect time to be intentional in building faith and in building relationships while having some fun, too.

Take a flower treasure hunt. Go to a nearby field or place where wildflowers grow. See how many different colors and varieties you can find. If you are somewhere that you can pick them to take home, collect as many as you can to make a bouquet.

When you get home, arrange your bouquet together and put it in a prominent place in your home such as on your dining room table. Then read Genesis 1:11-13 together, which says, Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so. The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day.”

Spend time talking about the amazing way that God created the heavens and the earth and all that is in them. He could have made them uniform, simple, and ordinary, but instead he chose to create things in such a way that there is more variety than we could ever think or imagine in such a complex way that we will never comprehend all that He has done. Just as each flower is unique, complex, and beautiful, so are each and every member of your family – and all of His creation! Let seeing your bouquet remind you of this activity.

Close your time in prayer thanking God for the gift of creation, the earth and heavens, and that everything and everyone are unique in their own special way. Thank Him for the beauty of the world in which we live.
