Let’s get started on how we can keep our focus on being a mom, even during the holidays!

holidays

So often it is easy for us to lose our focus and to lose our purpose as moms. However, we don’t have to settle for this. We can make come intentional choices to head these kinds of feelings off at the pass.

Today, I’ve got five more tips for you!

Don’t neglect your physical needs

It is so easy to push our own needs, including our physical needs, to the side when life gets busy or stressful, however, this only has a detrimental effect. It is so important to fill our tank first so that we can then fill the tanks of those around us including our families. Paying attention to our physical needs has three vital components in my opinion.

Control what you can control

There are always elements of our lives that are beyond our control, and this is especially true during the holidays. There are always things that we can do to help our lives run as smoothly as possible, however. These are things like

  • creating lists, creating systems, having an effective place to schedule and plan like a notebook or planner, delegating to others, and having regular sleep and wake schedules all apply here
  • examine areas in your life that aren’t running so efficiently and find solutions to help

Decide on some things to let go

We are so good at taking on the busyness of the season while not giving account for this in letting things go. We simply cannot take on extra activities, commitments, and projects, without taking things off of our plates somewhere else. Right now decide on:

  • one daily chore that you can let go for the rest of the month
  • three weekly chores you can let go of for the rest of the month
  • one holiday expectation that you will modify to make it work better in the life of your family

Find something inspiring to pursue

When we start to feel down, overwhelmed, or without joy, one of the best things we can do is to find some inspiration. This could come in the form of books, blogs, or an in person outing with someone you enjoy spending time with. Is there something you used to do that you don’t anymore? Maybe now is a great time to start thinking about taking that on again.

Have some fun

I love Mary Poppins, and I think she was spot on when she said that we should find an element of fun in every job that needs to be done. In all reality, the holidays can just be a demanding and stress-inducing time for us as moms. So often for us as moms the holidays can be anything but fun.

However, if you’re looking to regain your focus as a mom at any time, make fun a part of your daily life. Doing so doesn’t have to be elaborate, fancy, or costly, just simple fun.
