Almond bars are a favorite in our family. I don’t know if it’s because we’re Dutch and the Dutch seem to have a love for all things almond, but these are the favorite dessert treat in a house full of chocolate lovers. Since there is no chocolate in them, this is quite amazing.

Other than the almond extract, you most likely have everything you need on hand to make this sweet treat. They are moist and chewy yet have a really nice crust around the edges. If you have never had anything with either almost paste or almost extract, then you are really in for a treat. I do have a recipe for almost bars using almost paste that I will share at a later time, too.

For this recipe you will need:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup melted margarine
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons almont extract
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (optional)
  • 1/2 cup sliced almonds (optional)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9×13 inch pan. Combine flour, sugar, margarine, eggs, almond extract, and salt. Pour into pan. Sprinkle with sugar and almonds. Bake for 25-30 minutes.
