Summer. Life moves slower, time is more plentiful, and the days never seem to end. Summer is the perfect time to be intentional in building faith and in building relationships while having some fun, too.

I think one of the most fun summer family activities is to have a water balloon fight, but did you know that a simple water balloon fight can be a faith building experience? My kids would say that the best way to have a water balloon fight is to play a little hide and go seek game with a couple of water balloons as ammunition.

Get everyone involved in filling some water balloons early in the day. When it is time for the game, do this awesome family activity.

Divide up into two teams – a hiding team and a seeking team. Everyone in the hiding groups takes a couple balloons and finds someplace to hide. The younger kids can go along with a parent or an older sibling. After a few minutes, the seeking team starts seeking. As the hiders hear a seeker getting close by, jump out and ambush them with a balloon. Continue until the hiding team has used their balloons.

Then, reverse the teams with the hiders now being the seekers. The point of the activity is to have a good surprise in the attack by the hiders.

After everyone has had their fun, get a Bible and read 1 Peter 5:8, which says, “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”

Talk with your family about the importance of remembering that satan is prowling around all the time, looking for people to ensnare or to slip up. Just as the seekers were surprised and attacked by the hiders, so satan is so crafty and sly that he can attack us without us ever even noticing! Spend some time talking about temptation, and share ways that you can feel yourself being tempted by satan.

Close your time in prayer by thanking God for families, summer, and fun, but also pray for strength to resist the traps and ambushes of the devil.
